Drinking alcohol can have a snow ball effect of problems if women are not careful…

Forget about alcoholism and drunk driving for a few minutes and lets talk about the effects of binge drinking and women. Not only does it take less alcohol for many women to be effected negatively than men, but binge drinking for women of child bearing age has other problems too, if you are not careful. If a woman drinks and is sexually active, birth control should always be used. Not only can alcohol use lead to dangerous sex, but can also lead to unplanned pregnancies and eventually Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Regular binge drinking can lead to FASD if a woman is pregnant and continues to drink without realizing she is pregnant. It may take up to 8 weeks for many women to realize they are pregnant, especially if the pregnancy is unplanned. Drinking during that time can cause massive damage to a fetus, especially as the first trimester is a critical time for nervous system and brain growth. New statistics released today by the CDC show that 1 in 8 women and 1 in 5 high school girls regularly binge drink. Educating women about the dangers of drinking, pregnancy, and unprotected sex are critical to help prevent this highly preventable disability.
